U.S. Mashed Potato Mochi with Teriyaki Sauce

Serves 10 pieces (30 grams each)

Ingredients

  • 250 grams U.S. Frozen Mashed Potatoes, cooked until dry
  • 60 grams Starch
  • 2 grams Salt
  • 100 grams Cheese, sliced into 10 cubes
  • 10 pieces Nori
  • Oil for pan frying

Sauce

  • 30 milliliter Soy Sauce
  • 30 milliliter Mirin
  • 25 grams Sugar
  • 45 milliliter Water
  • 5 grams Starch
  • Sesame Seeds (Garnish)

Preparation

  1. Put frozen mashed potato in a pan and cook until excess liquid is removed, and potato is slightly dry, light and fluffy. Cool down completely.
  2. Add the salt and starch, and divide into 10 pcs. (30 grams each).
  3. Insert a piece of cheese inside.
  4. Heat up the oil to medium heat and pan fry until golden on both sides, about 5 minutes.
  5. Mix together the sauce ingredients and simmer until thick.
  6. Place a piece of nori on each mochi and brush with sauce.
